Agree with the points about Catalan but it was the RFL that brought them in, clearly it’s not worked out how they envisaged but it’s hardly Catalans or Toulouse fault. They can’t expect a big away following from either of them it’s just not viable.
I’m not sure what control you are referring to as all control lays with each club right now with the power of veto hence no control. Hence the state of the game over here. If the RFL had full control over the way the sport was/is run then maybe we could be in a better position than we currently are. But for years we have been run by fools. I agree it’s frightening to hand it over to the NRL and I’m wondering what their intentions for the game here are but there is no denying right now the NRL model is much much better than ours.
Regards the 10 team comp something tells me that one of them will be London especially as Hetherington is going there at end of the season. Think all the bleating from Beaumont right now and him getting Wood involved is he is worried Leigh will not be involved. Then again if Bradford got in above Leigh I would be beyond angry.
Interesting times.
I guess I mean control outside of the UK, I agree at the moment we have the clubs doing what is best for themselves to a large degree with a lesser thought on the game as a whole, I just worry jumping out of the frying pan and in to the fire if the NRL run it to their benefit, rather than the game in the UK. And that’s the worry, there as to be an ironclad agreement that if they take over it’s not detrimental to the sport here. We don’t want to be a feeder league to the NRL not that there is much coming through in home grown talent these days but what we do have we need them to stay in the UK. If they can do for the sport here what they have done in Australia then I’m all for it, it’s hard to knock how big it is now for them and the financial side of it. We badly need that instead of the infighting we have now.

Wires71:I used to like signing the Warrington usual chants against Widnes or Wigan at Wilderspool with the atmosphere building, then the hairs on the back of my neck would stand up when they played this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0CyOAO8y0
The smell of wintergreen would surround all of us, dizzying. Someone booting the corrugated steel at the back of of the Fletcher Street, tension palpable, nerves, excitement, the waft of embassy fags, the kick off and the first crunching tackle. Could not stop laughing when I played that just now, my god that took me back, am I weird in thinking it’s better than most the crap they play now. Or is it just my age showing lol.

| The best way we could get coverage for rugby league would be on a free to view channel ,sky is doing the game no favours . For too long sky has used rugby league as a shelf filler while taking it away from the casual viewer & has made RL dependent on sky tv.

Agreed, but the motive here is to develop revenue from TV rights licensing, not eyeballs on screens for free. Competition, as mooted, from Amazon Prime or DAZN would help put some pressure on Sky to pay a fair fee for licensing rights - or lose out. To be honest the whole thing with Sky is stale, it needs a revamp.

Being honest the only one I would keep from current crop is Carney and when he finally retires Tomkins I do like listening to him. All the others are garbage. Also I would prefer it to stay on Sky as I do watch other sports(not football) and don?tfancy paying for another sub just for rugby, but hey ho let?s see what happens. Free to view well the BBC are doing a great job NOT. Childish graphics that have not changed for years and now Sharon Shortle, no thanks.
